What is gingivitis?

Gingivitis is basically an inflammation of the gums around your teeth and the gumline. Gum disease begins with a simple build-up of plaque, which is the mixture bacteria, the waste from bacteria, food particles and mucus. If not removed, plaque begins to harden into tartar. The longer tartar and plaque are left on the teeth around the gum line, the more damage is done to your tooth enamel. Soreness begins to occur, which is the rise of gingivitis. If left untreated, gingivitis can progress into periodontal disease (gum disease). Good oral hygiene including flossing and brushing with a brushless toothbrush for receding gums can help remove plaque while protecting the enamel on your teeth. Additionally, you can help keep your teeth and avoid gingivitis from developing by modifying your diet and focusing on proper nutrition.

Gum grafting procedures are required for several reasons, but they all relate to stopping further gum recession. Poor dental hygiene, genetics and the occasional misplaced popcorn kernel can all cause receding gums. Receding gums must be stopped immediately otherwise people can risk losing teeth.

In a 2010 study, the ayurvedic practice of oil pulling proved a reduction of plaque in individuals with gingivitis.

Does Your Gum Grow Back?

I prefer extra virgin olive oil --- i've not attempted others yet, but some people have used sesame and coconut oils with good results. Every day when i first wake up, and on an empty stomach, i take a tbsp of evoo, put it in my mouth and vigorously swish --- "pulling" it around and through my teeth over and over for 10-15 minutes. Now this is the important part: you don't want to gargle it, and you have to apply it a minimum of the 15 minutes until the oil becomes aerated, white, and foamy. Do not swallow it as it has toxins and bacteria that have been "pulled" from your teeth and oral mucosa --- spit it out and run warm water to keep the oil from potentially clogging your sink drain. I've been doing this exact process daily am and pm (just before bed) for 2 weeks now and i have noticed some astonishing improvements.
